The matter referred

The Committee on Referred Matters examined a single result: Laytown parkrun, 1 August 2026. Oisín O'Brien finished first. The recorded time was 20:44. These three particulars — the event and its date, the placing, and the time — are the whole of what was verified and the whole of what is entered.

The Committee did not receive, and did not seek, any account of the weather, the ground, the size or composition of the field, the margin of victory, the character of the course, the recipient's previous results, or anything said before or after the event. Where the record is silent the Institute is silent.

Why the entry was made

Article II of the Standard asks whether the significance of an achievement is apparent without explanation. A first placing is apparent on its face: it is the outcome of a contested event stated in the plainest terms available to sport, and it requires no interpretation to be understood. The recorded time of 20:44 fixes the performance precisely and permits the entry to be made without approximation.

The Committee was satisfied that the matter is one of record within Article I, that it is attributable to a named individual within Article III, and that it can be stated in the Register exactly as verified within Article IV.
